** New ** Public FlyCast 2.0 Public Beta

Postby FlyCastRosco on Mon Jun 22, 2009 2:51 pm

Hello everyone,

Thanks for all your feedback and your patience while we keep improving FlyCast.

We are releasing our second public beta. We have made a lot of changes. I will
highlight some of the major ones here. For the Storm, we have added full UI
rotation, including cover flow during playback. We have made recording and
user music library options that you can turn off. We have made a lot of bug
fixes in sound volume, headphones, bluetooth, phone call handling, and more.
You can now also tweet about a song you like to all your followers on Twitter.

To get the new beta, please first delete FlyCast from your device.
Then point your browser on your BlackBerry to http://www.flycast.fm/betabby

We have archived the current beta and you can roll back if you have problems.

There was an error updating one of our servers.

If any of the betas give you this message:
"Error starting FlyCast: Module 'flyCast' does not match codfile timestamp of sibling module 'FlyCast-2'"

Please just delete and reinstall.

Sorry for the mixup.

Great job Flycast. Bravo on Flycast 2.0 Public Beta. This is a great (free!) service. Props.

I have not had any major problems. Only minor issue with playback stopping once (this is my first day of use). Also got stuck on the "...........buffering............" step a few time. I had to close out of Flycast and restart before it would get past that.

Is there any way to delete individual tracks recorded in a string of flyback recordings from a station? I would like to get rid of the songs I don't like and trim the use of memory. Also how about deleting the whole station recording? I can't find how to do that either. For that matter, I couldn't find a good help or user manual. Is there one? Also what's the purpose of the "thumbs-up" and "thumbs-down" ratings system for an individual song? Maybe if I could find the manual I could find out, but in playing with it I didn't see what it did for me.

Thanks for an awesome product!

You can only delete tracks when you play them back in a recording.
There should be a trash can icon. This will delete the track that is
the current focus with bigger cover art, not the one playing. If you
have a non-Storm, you can also just hit the delete key. To delete a
station recording, you just have it selected in the row and hit BB
menu "Delete Recording". Again, delete will work for non-Storm.

We are working on help and will have better versions when we release.
There are also some video tutorials in another section of the forums.

Thanks for the answers. (I eventually found them myself after playing with it enough.)

And some more kudos for Flycast: I think this is the best thing to ever happen to radio. The
ability to record hours of radio *WITH* track info and Album art is awesome. AND the ability to go into
a recording later and delete tracks I don't want is what really makes Flycast a HOME RUN. You guys
have a really good thing going!

Thanks Flycast!!

I ran into an issue (after flying back 2 hours and listening for an hour and a half) where the same
song was repeating over and over again until I clicked on another song. Then when I went to the last
song in the recording and played it, nothing happened after it was over (no new song from the live
feed came up) The music just stopped. The total time on the recording was about 4.5 hours. Is there
some limit perhaps?

I also have a couple suggestions for improving a good thing: I would like it if in the settings I
could limit how much memory Flycast was allowed to use. Then I could leave recording on knowing
Flycast would not take up more than x MB or x GB. And I would have space left on my memory card for
other stuff.

Also it would be nice if when the recording space is low and instead of indiscriminately deleting the
oldest song, it would delete the oldest songs starting with those that I rated "Hate it" first, then ones I didn't rate, then lastly saving the ones I rated "Love it" to last, so I had more control over what is automatically deleted. Sound good? Possible?

Thanks!

Hey Flycast, I have been busy using Flycast 2.0 public beta (LOVE it) and have some more feedback for you...

After recording for several hours, the number of songs can grow quite long and it can be difficult to navigate from say the beginning to the end. Perhaps navigation options such as forward/backward 10 songs (or 20? 50?) or to end/beginning of recording. What about a search capability? Is that possible?

Also, it would be nice to have more info on each track - I often wonder the date the song was released. Maybe the ability to click on the track and link to it somewhere on the internet would be a way to get lots of info on the track.

I ran into an issue deleting a track a few times...if found that if I attempt to delete a track the same time the track is ending, the delete didn't work (and I think next actually track got deleted instead).

Hi Flycast,

I have another issue to report. Occasionally the radio station will stop playing on its own and I have to click on the current track to jump start it.

Ugh - I guess that's why they call it beta...I just spend hours going through a 3+ hour recording...only to loose ALL songs in the recording. When I was done and had the final 11 songs I wanted to keep, I hit the square 'stop' button and went straight to "Recordings" to see what the new total time was and... it was zero ( :o ) - all the songs in the recording were gone and not one was there. I tried closing and restarting, but to no avail. One possible clue? I think I might have deleted the first track because it didn't play (I can't remember for sure though) Good luck!

Wxwise1 GREAT FEEDBACK! :D

A few items are somewhat farfetched; for example, the idea regarding track release date. The information you see regarding song information (i.e. -The Fray - You Found Me) is actually data pulled from broadcasters, not FlyCast. If a broadcaster had a line of information regarding release dates, we could put that in, but none (that I have seen) do. That being said, you can highlight the track and get more info using your BBY button to directly view a weblink of it or purchase it on Amazon. Which is basically a way FlyCast has developed to give you above said info.

Track navigation is a good idea, but we are continuously changing the BETA app. It may or may not have similar recording functionality, such as that you are used to now. So hang tight on that idea. As far as tracks deleting when you get to the end of them, I will test that. Furthermore, my assumption to why your entire recording was deleted, is it possible you accidentally hit Delete All Recordings? Be careful with the options available, for now! :)

There is a known bug, with regards to your last comment, which entails the next track to not play. FlyCast finishes streaming the current track and wants to switch to the next one, but for some reason it hangs on the last second of playback and refuses to move on! We are solving this issue for the next build, which should provide more stable.

Again - Great Feedback! Probably the most detailed I have seen yet, lol!

Thanks FlyCastNick.

Regarding the entire recording being lost... definitely not an accident on my part (I didn't hit the "Delete Recording" item). In fact it just happened again- except this time I didn't delete any tracks in the recording. I had just finished listening to the recording and pressed the square stop "button" at the bottom. Again, when it put me back to my recordings, the length was (00:00:00). I went back into the recording to confirm, and there were no songs in it.

This was another 4+ hour recording.

My luck with 4+ hour recordings is very poor...(you might want to look into those 4+ hour recordings ;) )
